Al and I just had our last child-free holiday ever. We had relaxing nights in and late breakfasts at Coolangatta, walks along the beach and lazing by the pool. It’s the last time we will ever do that without children. Allan was hoping that the baby would come over the weekend so he had an excuse to drive me to Tweed Heads hospital. Therefore the baby will be born in NSW and not in QLD. He isn't happy about bringing our child into the world in Queensland....Whatever happens though it will be a Blues supporter!
This last week has been the first time I really felt like a beached whale. I can’t do up my shoes, get out of the bath, or spend any great length of time in one position. I can't pick things up off the floor and I am getting braxton hicks (fake) contractions every now and then which, whilst they aren't terribly painful, are very uncomfortable.Meanwhile I now have technically 5 days to go. My midwife is really happy with my progress and I have my last appointment booked for next Tuesday (the day before I am due). It's really unlikely that bubs will arrive on time, but we'll be sure to let everyone know as soon as they do.
No matter what happens we will have a new addition to our family very shortly. I guess now we just wait for our world to change.....
Happy 5th Wedding Anniversary to me and Al! Yes, it’s been 5 years since I walked down that steep concrete path (ie aisle) in Cronulla and agreed to spend the rest of my life with Al.The traditional 5 year gift is wood and not wanting to go ‘mainstream’ and get Al something useful, I bought him 50 hectares of rainforest in Sumatra. For his 5th wedding anniversary he is helping to preserve the habitat of orangutans in Indonesia. Technically what I bought him was wood….d’uh, rainforest, but it is also a gift that keeps on giving. We don’t need more crap around our house at the moment. We have enough baby stuff to fill a 40ft container! It was Al’s turn to arrange the celebrations so we went to dinner at the same place I chose last year! No….before you start laughing it’s not like that at all! I suggested that we go to the same place because we enjoyed it so much last year. We had a magnificent dinner (thanks Brett’s Wharf!) and great conversation. We have developed a tradition on our wedding anniversaries of discussing how we think we have gone as a couple over the previous 12 months. Needless to say the conversation centered on the pregnancy and the impending arrival of our first child. But overall we did agree it had been a great 12 months. The next 12 months are going to be an interesting adventure to say the least. Who knows, next year we might have an 11 month old with us at our anniversary dinner. Hard to day where we’ll be, but I know that wherever we are it’ll be great, because we’ll be together – all three of us!
