Five years and now the real fun begins

Happy 5th Wedding Anniversary to me and Al! Yes, it’s been 5 years since I walked down that steep concrete path (ie aisle) in Cronulla and agreed to spend the rest of my life with Al.

The traditional 5 year gift is wood and not wanting to go ‘mainstream’ and get Al something useful, I bought him 50 hectares of rainforest in Sumatra. For his 5th wedding anniversary he is helping to preserve the habitat of orangutans in Indonesia. Technically what I bought him was wood….d’uh, rainforest, but it is also a gift that keeps on giving. We don’t need more crap around our house at the moment. We have enough baby stuff to fill a 40ft container!

It was Al’s turn to arrange the celebrations so we went to dinner at the same place I chose last year! No….before you start laughing it’s not like that at all! I suggested that we go to the same place because we enjoyed it so much last year.

We had a magnificent dinner (thanks Brett’s Wharf!) and great conversation. We have developed a tradition on our wedding anniversaries of discussing how we think we have gone as a couple over the previous 12 months. Needless to say the conversation centered on the pregnancy and the impending arrival of our first child. But overall we did agree it had been a great 12 months.

The next 12 months are going to be an interesting adventure to say the least. Who knows, next year we might have an 11 month old with us at our anniversary dinner. Hard to day where we’ll be, but I know that wherever we are it’ll be great, because we’ll be together – all three of us!
